Searching the internet for education
Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL and the list goes on and on. These sources have been relying on for my education since I knew about searching the internet. When I was a young college freshman, the only searching engine I used was AOL; and in all reality, it was to check the weather and my email. As the internet had not yet developed into the massive academic tool that it has become these past six years.
Preparing and searching for a research project
Back in those days, the idea of searching the internet simply did not exist. Instead, we checked dozens of hard copy books out of the library, ordered scholarly reviews and cliff notebooks; called Pizza Hut and requested a couple of Pizzas and prepared for a long night.
Even with all of that effort; my papers were written then actually pale in comparison to the comprehensive data that my teenage little sister presents on a paper about her favorite pop singer. Now with the instant access that the various searching engines bestow on her; she now possesses the ability to access thousands of digital arguments, collateral, photographic as well as literature evidence after hitting the “ENTER” button.
Within two or three clicks she can browse, download, and read dozens of previously written articles on the same topic; so that she can see the benefits, along with errors of writing a certain way; and develop her theory of how to approach this specific report.
Not only can you tap into any virtual library for education references while eating your lunch at the same time. But if it were a current topic; you could set a Google alert and receive updates any time the specified topic is mentioned in the body of a news article.
Finally, with access to dozens and dozens of scholarly documents; you can check any of your opinions as well as assertions against the brightest minds on any given topic.
This is even easier as you can drag and paste into a google document. In all reality, I couldn’t envy this generation informational access advantages any more than I already do. As it is truly unlimited!
All my education since college have taken on searching the internet. All the answers were on my button press.
I have always asked time and again why I would suggest someone take up an online Postgraduate course. My answer to them was simple; not everyone came with a silver spoon. Some of us had to start working before we were ever able to complete the courses that we had in mind. Well, there is more than all of this; there are many who would consider that their life as a student is done, and then they get to working. After a point of time when they work do they start realizing that what they have done is not enough. Furthermore, are they required to learn more?
This is where all the online learning comes into the picture. Now let’s imagine where the free online postgraduate courses come into the picture. These are courses that are available online as a free courseware. However, these courses never get you any credits. These are done as learning for people who are interested. Many of the well-known universities offer a variety of online courses that help you get the understanding of a certain subject. This, however, is unlike your other online courses that are available as a paid service and certifications.
Searching for the free online postgraduate courses
This offer to you what is very rare; learning at no extra cost. Not always do people learn. Because of this, they need a degree or a certificate in their resumes. They do it because it is good for them to know about certain topics. This is why anyone would register for these courses. You may not be sure if you want to get into a full-time online course. Not sure what each course offers to you regarding learning; that’s when you take up the free course.
A free course gives you a flexibility of just learning; while you get to know what you would be learning when the full online course is taken. This is also how people can judge the quality of the course content. They can get you into the door of looking at what course suits you the best. You can try and figure out many of the different courses and not stick to just one at a time. After that, once completely through with the course you can choose to do it full time.
How digital media might have affected our approach to academia
Its effects on commerce are even more profound. For instance, if I was a young business man and needed an airport limo to provide chauffeur service for an upcoming business trip 25 years ago; I would contact my admin. Who would put in a request to HR; who would contact a third party travel agency; along with, who would contact multiple people in there business directory which was kept under lock and key.
Nowadays, I would simply google the term “limo service”; and within a second, I would get a comprehensive listing of transportation services in my city based on user ratings. The overall way that we go about researching for academic purposes has been permanently altered by the introduction of digital access.
